The Principle Engineer leads integrated product development teams - certifying flight control, vehicle management computers, stores management systems and environmental control systems.

The Principle Engineer works with Collins Product line engineering, coordinates with Collins Program Office and the customer.

The Principle Engineer is part of the Project Chief’s Office, and reports to the Project Chief, Sikorsky Programs, which is a key focal point with engineering, Value Stream Management, and customer support for all technical, budget and schedule issues on programs and platforms.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to integrated product development teams through Opportunity capture phase, Preliminary Design, Detail Design, Verification and Validation, entry into service, product support phase in support of Flight controls and environmental control system programs.

  • Manage overall program milestones through tracking IPT’s to commitment and providing overall program execution communication.

  • Maintain overall program technical risk assessment including the identification of program level technical risk mitigation plans and establishing and tracking tasks to reduce risk.

  • Coordinate overall program technical communications internally and externally between the engineering teams, the customer, and with the Value Stream Leadership.

  • Be the engineering focal point for insuring tasks are appropriately planned, baselined and tracked via EVMS. Ensure all IPTs are tracking to their plans.

  • Ensure all technical scope changes are properly coordinated with the Program Office and full alignment is gained prior to execution of unplanned work.

  • Communicate effectively (verbally and written) to program team, management, and customer representatives.

  • Coordinate with functional managers to ensure proper resource plans are in place.

  • Utilize the Collins Management System processes & Standard Work tool to drive the IPT teams through the proper technical design, program and gate reviews.

  • Travel to customers and suppliers as needed.

  • Oversee test and engineering specifications including certification plans and reports.

  • Oversee work in the lab such as development and certification hardware testing.

  • Lead RRCA investigations during the design phase to ensure that robust fixes are put in place.

  • Support the Value Stream Leader in Strategic & Financial planning.

  • Travel up to 10% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR

  • Advance degree and 7 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a US Person including green card holders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Mechanical/Aerospace

  • Experience working in a multifunctional integrated product development team including task planning and execution on schedule and budget

  • Experience in program scheduling and earned value techniques

  • Experience with new product development processes

  • Experience leveraging excellent communication and presentation skills - written and verbal – to drive results

  • Proven record of meeting objectives and commitments
