Position overview
Collins Aerospace is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products.  The ISR & Space Systems business unit provides products and services to global government and commercial customers that enable mission success in the harshest environments of space, in the air, at sea, and on the ground.  We design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) and Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) on a number of space & sea platforms including the International Space Station, the U.S. space suit, the next generation of space vehicles such as CST-100 and Orion, and the US Navy’s submarine fleet.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join us as a Materials Engineering Intern to support the design, development, and production of Orion, HALO and International Space Station hardware.   


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities may include: laboratory analysis of materials and corrosion testing to support component design and manufacturing; development of NDE and welding techniques and weld procedure qualification and Supplier procedure reviews for compatibility/compliance with Collins requirements, and participation in Integrated Product Development System (IPDS) step or gate progression activities, such as design reviews and control boards. 
  • Ability to work well both independently and within an integrated product development (IPD)  team environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent writing & math skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing metallography and/or chemical analyses
  • Experience generating material test plans and conducting material testing. 
  • Experience with SEM, FTIR, gas chromatographs, tensile and fatigue testing equipment.
  • Experience with welding techniques, generation of weld procedure records (WPRs)
  • Experience with Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) techniques, especially radiography, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle or dye penetration.
