We’re looking for someone with experience sustaining and improving the coating performance of vacuum deposition chambers, as well as troubleshooting the mechanical components – to become the subject matter expert for our thin film optical coating process. In addition to the technical skills, we desire an individual who is a team player, has strong communication skills, and analytical ability to join our team. This position will consistently interact with production equipment and production employees to sustain and improve production performance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Optical coating process development for new and existing processes that lead to improved product yields, throughput and durability

  • Optical coating design including anti-reflection, mirror, bandpass, edge filters, dichroic, etc.

  • Modeling of experimental results, characterization and refinement of optical properties

  • Designing, analyzing, and processing of thin film optical coatings utilizing Macleod comprehensive computer software package

  • Design and processing of electrically conductive and oleophobic coatings

  • Materials development of new optical coating materials for UV, VIS, IR wavelength ranges

  • Deposition technology development, research and propose new deposition methods

  • Interface with Production engineering in transitioning coating processes into manufacturing

  • Interface with relevant production departments and external stakeholders as needed

  • On-site technical leadership and area ownership to the Coating Department with specific responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Provide daily technical guidance on chamber and process performance to production employees

  • Provide daily support and resolution to down production equipment

  • Lead root cause analysis investigations for production equipment failures

  • Drive/Implement corrective actions based on machine root cause investigation

  • Support manufacturing process improvement and quality initiatives

  • Development of new fabrication techniques

  • Cycle time reduction

  • Process variation reduction

  • Non-conformance mitigation

  • Create end plans to manufacture precision thin optics in order to determine procedures, tooling, and equipment required

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

  • Science, Technology, Engineering or Math degree required
