Want to be directly involved in the designing and executing of test solutions for a variety of different mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic aerospace products? If so this may be the opportunity that you have been looking for. As a Test Technician you will be a member of a team supporting the development of systems used on aircraft worldwide.   Here you will be developing and performing product tests for a variety of Collins Aerospace products. If you don’t want to be limited to only electronic or mechanical component testing then this position is for you, as knowledge of both are essential to this position.  This position works regularly with aircraft cargo system components including motors, circuit boards, displays, joysticks, airframe structural members, mechanical latches, ball transfer units, rollers, and panels.

The primary responsibility for this position is to assist test engineers in developing and validating aerospace cargo handling equipment including structural and mechanical components, electro-mechanical components, and electronics.  The test technician who fills this position will need strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills using equipment that may include but are not limited to the following test equipment:  Digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, dynamotors, and electronic loads.  This position could also require use of equipment to support structural, thermal, humidity, fluids and vibration test requirements.  Test fixture design and fabrication requiring light machining or additive manufacturing methods may also be utilized.

Role Overview
This position is for a senior Engineering Services and Support technician who is under general supervision. Performs basic to moderately complex technical tasks which contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects. Collaborates with higher level support staff to confer with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results. May assist in orienting, training, and assigning work of technical/business support employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work under limited supervision to provide technical support to engineers on a variety of engineering tasks
  • Collaborate directly with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results
  • Perform research and engineering laboratory functions involving the layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modification of electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.
  • Set up and operate precision test equipment for alignment, troubleshooting and testing of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Possess a working knowledge of standard test equipment, oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers etc., as well as a working knowledge of custom made test equipment including automatic test equipment.
  • Perform failure analysis on electronic circuit card assemblies, electro-mechanical assemblies and test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical hardware and test equipment.
  • Identify, develop, and implement efficiency improvements to existing methods
  • Operate, inspect and maintain test setups and equipment calibration
  • Operate, create and edit software code for numerous testers utilized for new product development
  • Plan and execute experiments and gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes to support engineering disciplines
  • Produce reports and engineering documentation
  • Perform monthly safety and lab organization audits. (EH&S, 5S, and FOD audits).
  • Performs difficult electrical/mechanical repair operations consisting of disassembly and assembly of units. Determines requirements and installs modifications as set forth by engineering
  • Analyzes circuitry and physically checks wiring and operation of various electronic parts, units, and systems components necessary to locate malfunction causes found during testing of components, equipment or systems.
  • Maintain laboratory aircraft system physical mock ups

Basic Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.  In the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required
  • Less than 10% travel expected
  • US Citizenship is required  
  • Ability or desire to create software programs
  • Knowledge of Labview, TestStand, is a plus.
  • Must be able to read and understand electronic schematics, design drawings, detailed task procedures
  • Be comfortable using tools and equipment in a hands on lab environment including mills, saws, grinders, dmms, oscilloscopes, power supplies

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Visio, Lab View, TestStand, IDEC SmartRelay Programming preferred
  • Familiarity with 28 volts dc, 400 hertz AC, and 270 volt dc power circuits
  • Familiar in the use and maintenance of environmental chambers, tensile testers, NI equipment, and custom electromechanical test stands
  • Associates or Bachelor degree preferred
  • Experience in automation, calibration preferred.
