Our Military Landing Gear team currently has an opening for a Manager, Project Engineer.  In Fort Worth, TX we specialize in our focus on the design and development of cutting-edge Landing Gear technology. Would you like to be a part of what we are doing?

Preferred location Fort Worth, TX can work remote from Troy/Cleveland, OH

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide strong technical leadership for all aspects of the Programs assigned while working with the following:

  • Program Management to ensure that projects are properly managed to achieve project delivery in accordance with project plans
  • Integrated Product Team (IPT) to ensure Engineering integration into overall program requirements
  • Divisional Engineering teams to ensure that engineering integrity is achieved, engineering procedures are complied, lessons learned are addressed and a robust trouble-free product is developed
  • Managing and developing direct reports

Executes engineering program activities including:

  • Liaise with Customer/Suppliers internal and external for all program related issues
  • Submit technical data to the customer for approval/acceptance per contractual requirements
  • Support customer requests such as redesigns/product improvements based on life cycle data (wear issues, failures, cost reduction, product improvements, etc.) or perform minor testing (i.e., shock leak, fit checks, cycle tests, etc.)
  • Foster strong customer relationships through accountability, transparency and credibility
  • Utilize the ACE Operating System and NPI tools to facilitate program execution
  • Develops and is accountable for overall engineering schedule and budget and harmonizes priorities and objectives with Program, Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain
  • Responsible and accountable for all related engineering tasks and its completion dates
  • Sets Engineering team priorities and objectives with a strong drive to meet expectations
  • Communicates progress and roadblocks with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) and Engineering Management
  • Reviews, recommends, coordinates design, drawing changes activity with customer, other Company disciplines and coordinates activities between production, manufacturing and engineering
  • Interprets and conveys the intent of changes made to drawing related documents to ensure consistent interpretation and implementation by individuals affected by the drawing change
  • Verifies the accuracy of customer generated documents and coordinates with the customer, as necessary, to make corrections
  • Maintains the Engineering Bill of Material in the PDM system (e-Matrix)
  • Reviews change requests for producibility issues, drawing clarifications, and cost reduction
  • Supports the change board function to ensure proper and timely change incorporation
  • Supports the customer and/or government representatives as needed
  • Generates change proposals with both cost and time estimates
  • Reviews contracts for technical content
  • Provides Engineering support to all functional group on an as-needed basis within the company, as well as the Supply Chain
  • Initiates drawing changes as required by developing and maintaining the product to customer requirements.

This may include the following:

  • Drawing/model maintenance and change forms
  • Configuration Management/Interchangeability
  • Generating 3-D Stress models (CATIA) for analysis
  • Kinematics analysis
  • Maintaining weight reports (weight, center of gravity, moments of inertia, etc.) Generate retrofit kits
  • Prepares Acceptance Test Procedures
  • Generates change proposals with both cost and time estimates
  • Maintains a project plan when and if necessary, to ensure proper implementation of design changes or testing requirements

  • Submits technical data to the customer for approval/acceptance per contractual requirements
  • Perform liaison engineering function within UTAS, as well as customers and suppliers
  • Supports spares programs as needed
  • Supports in house and field root-cause investigations
  • Designs and checks fixtures for testing and assembly
  • Maintains the Engineering Bill of Material in the PDM system (e-Matrix)
  • Initiates the release of the drawing related documents in the PDM system
  • Reviews change requests for producibility issues, drawing clarifications, and cost reduction
  • Supports the change board function to ensure proper and timely change incorporation
  • Supports the customer and/or government representatives as needed
  • Reviews contracts for technical content
  • Provides Engineering support to all functional group on a as-needed basis within the company, as well as the Supply Chain
  • Develop measurable actions plans and ensures actions are completed on time
  • Problem Resolution
  • Performs/Leads/Facilitates Engineering investigations into failures and leads/participates in Root Cause and Corrective Action
  • Ensure timely and satisfactory resolution of problems

Manages direct reports:

  • Develop direct reports and facilitate development of their individual/career development plans
  • Conduct performance feedback reviews & provide compensation/merit recommendation
  • Work with direct reports on developing goals and objectives with linkage to Policy Deployment initiatives
  • Provide input to the LDR process

Compliance:

  • Ensures compliance with UTAS-LS engineering methodologies by providing direction/guidance to the stress team
  • Ensures compliance with all ethics and EH&S policies and guidelines and conducts themselves in an ethical manner
  • Maintains compliance to ITAR, customer and regulatory requirements
  • Maybe asked to complete other tasks based on skills and qualifications
  • Occasional travel between customer/suppliers and UTAS locations. Long term assignments may be required during the joint definition phases for new programs.

Support Landing Systems cultural initiatives through use of the Four Gears philosophy and the ACE Operating System.

Travel up to approximately 20%- 30% to site or customer

Perform other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Extensive experience in New Product Development of military type aircraft
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a multi-disciplined team of Engineers (structural design, systems installation design, stress analysis, weights analysis, design trade-off studies)
  • Demonstrated ability working with a PDM (Smart-team, MatrixOne, Team Center) system
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Strong verbal and facilitating skills in team environment.
  • Understanding of computing tools and programs including the use of MS Project
  • Understanding of materials and manufacturing process.
  • Knowledge of Dimensional and Tolerancing.
