Collins Aerospace is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fulfill an opening as a Special Process Engineer in our Supplier Quality organization to be located in our Cedar Rapids, IA location.  The position will act as a key resource to evaluate and audit supplier’s special processes. The position will also provide troubleshooting, and technical support to the supplier quality enterprise. Prospective candidates can anticipate joining a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team auditing a variety of systems with extensive opportunity for skill development in complementary fields.

Candidates must have excellent communication, organizational and time management skills and an overall strong quality focus. They must be able to work within cross-functional teams to meet and improve upon established quality and delivery goals.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Audit supplier’s special processes based on established criteria

  • Participate in supplier special process issue/concerns

  • Participate in industry wide Nadcap Task Group activities and meetings

  • Provide project management guidance and support to projects and processes

  • Develop special process improvements to our quality system

  • Exercise independent judgment methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

  • May require 40%-60% Travel on average


Qualifications

  • Self-confident, dependable, and highly motivated.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) & strong MS Office (Word, Excel) skills

Quality Certification

Basic Qualifications:
This position requires a STEM Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience.  In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required. US Citizen or Permanent Residence required.

  • Strong working knowledge is required for multiple special processes. Most desirable candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in the aerospace industry.

  • Experience with aerospace special processes such as heat treating, welding, chemical processing, coating, NDT, electronics, etc.

  • Experience auditing is a must

  • Competence in conducting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action

  • Experience working across and coordinating activities between multiple business units or suppliers.

  • Strong results orientation balanced by concern for people.

  • Must have the ability to review/interpret drawings, specifications and procedures against requirements, Nadcap or industry requirements 

  • Experience in the application of lean tools and SPC control
