The Military Global Positioning Systems (GPS) Business is seeking qualified candidates for a Sr. Systems Engineer in our Ground & Weapons SATNAV Systems department located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We continue to build on a strong history of providing navigation equipment to meet the evolving needs of military users. Our navigation solutions provide enhanced situational awareness and pinpoint accuracy for military missions worldwide. Leading the way in GPS navigation technology, our array of products and systems cover airborne, precision-guided munitions, ground handheld receivers and embedded applications.
Our team needs engineers interested in solving complex problems, creatively architecting, designing, developing and verifying real-time embedded GPS receivers for military airborne, ground and weapons applications. This position offers abundant opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge of GPS technology and receiver architecture, and to apply that knowledge in a team effort to develop our Modernized GPS receiver products. The engineer will coordinate regularly with engineering and program management to ensure the success of the project.
Executes objectives for requirements management, reliability, logistics, coordination of different teams, evaluation measurements, and other disciplines for large or complex projects.
Monitors the cost, effectiveness, and reliability of activities and recommends modifications to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and ensure that standards are met.
Provides analysis for the decomposition of customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements, and develops verification criteria and plans for the requirements.
Performs analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, modeling, and test.
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk assessment.
Considers and evaluates alternatives accounting for similar metrics.
Manages configuration process, performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Experience with systems tools (DOORS, Python, JAMA, JIRA, etc.)
Time management skills - ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work
Effectively interact and build trust with team members from many different backgrounds, including engineering management, engineering teams, program management, and operations
Effective communication (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.
Willingness to travel (domestic <10%)
Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (US Citizenship required).
