Position overview

The Collins Aerospace Air Transport Systems Engineering department is looking for an entry level software engineer to join the avionics software displays team. This position will work closely with the rest of the engineering team to define requirements, design, develop code, and integrate and verify the functionality of the software in the engineering lab. This software is developed to the highest criticality level, so attention to detail is a must for this position. The ideal candidate will soon be completing or have recently completed a degree.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conducts engineering processes and standard work, including verification and qualification procedures
  • Compiles and consolidates testing on diagnostic systems containing logical and mathematical solutions
  • Assists in conducting disciplinary research on one or more stages of the equipment design phase to develop design options and recommendations
  • Learns hardware and software standards and ensures work product adheres to these standards and business objectives of the organization are met
  • Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs control and diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software
  • Determines end user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements and input data acquisition.
  • Ensures hardware and software standards are met
  • Designs and implements build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development and use
  • May develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
  • May train software developers in the use of configuration management tools and the implementation of software quality standards
  • Effective and easily-engaged communicator
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with various teams
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, evaluate options, and develop solutions
  • Energetic and proactive self-starter that builds sound, collaborative relationships
  • Ability to work independently and make sound ethical decisions that drive results
  • C / C++ programming experience desired
  • This position requires a commitment to professional working hours that extend beyond a typical 40 hour work week.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR
  • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Collins Aerospace co-op or internship experience
