Job Description:

PI Lab Materials Preparation Intern.  Searching for a student with Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical or Mechanical interests.   Job requires the preparation of material samples for evaluation by Lab Staff and miscellaneous Laboratory tasks. This job requires the operation of a variety of cutting, grinding and cross-sectioning tools.  Familiarity with Metallurgical sample preparation techniques (cutting, grinding, polishing, etching), Analytical instrumentation (SEM, EDX, XRF, FTIR), Mechanical test methods (tensile, compression, hardness) and Optical microscopy are all desirable, but not required.

Laboratory Description: The Product Improvement Lab provides the expertise and laboratory facilities to support the Metallurgical evaluation, Failure investigation and Non-Destructive Test needs of the business.  These services are used during product development, process optimization and manufacturing test to continuously improve the quality and reliability of our products. The Laboratory is a hands-on operation that is geared towards investigative engineering and root cause analysis. Operating as a scientific detective agency, situations are analyzed through the examination of microscopic clues. A systematic approach that uses a variety of analytical techniques is employed to discover the physics and chemistry of each failure. Great care is taken to ensure that all evidence is preserved and that one clue is not destroyed while pursuing another.
